Baltimore, Maryland Rash Field Renovation Project
Real Projectives® (RPL) is honored to be serving as Owner’s Representative and project manager for the 7-acre Rash Field renovation project in Baltimore, Maryland.
Through a competitive RFP process, in 2019 the Waterfront Partnership of Baltimore (WPB) selected us to be their representative — to lead the remainder of design and manage the construction stages of work located adjacent to the Maryland Science Center. WPB has a unique contractual partnership with the City of Baltimore to be the steward of the public land and lead developer of this first of many related improvements planned to reenergize the famed Inner Harbor waterfront.
The Rash Field Phase 1 project consists of the demolition of existing and aged facilities to be replaced with a collection of active adventure park and skatepark, along with passive outdoor and nature areas. The improvements also include constructing a new 1500 square-foot, glass-walled pavilion-type building with café and restrooms set to into the hillside with green roof overlook and integrative landscaping around it. The project goal is to create a world-class park for residents and visitors within the great City of Baltimore. The design has been led by Mahan Rykiel Associates and Gensler with a host of other consultants.
RPL worked intensely over several months with the client and project team to value engineer the plans and phase the work to accommodate several competing requirements including BGE electrical relocation, MDE soils remediation, and budget matching of costs to donations and funding sources.
Upon receipt of permits a few months ago, work began. As of late October 2020, the project has relocated electric power services, completed site demolition and land clearing, and begun earthwork under the supervision of general contractor, Whiting Turner. Performing site remediation and remaining earthwork along with installation of foundations will continue throughout the winter.
