Real Projectives® (RPL) has an important goal of employing at least one intern or cooperative student throughout the year.
We generally have one person during the summer and occasionally find another student for the winter period. Recently Kaustubh Josyabhatla, who goes by “Josy,” joined us mostly in person for the early months of 2022. Josy hails from Southeast Florida and is a rising senior at Virginia Tech studying Construction Engineering and Management. During his internship, we involved him in many aspects of multiple renovation and development projects, thereby gaining broad industry exposure and real-world experience.
Josy stated, “from using PMWeb, working with a due diligence checklist, and to going on construction site visits I gained knowledge and increased my confidence. I gained exposure on developing and organizing project schedules. This was quite informative in how the firm approaches its work. It was great seeing the role organization plays in construction project management.”
He further commented, “The due diligence checklist proved a bit tricky to understand and figure out; after some practice and training I gained greater understanding. My favorite part about my internship was going on construction site visits which allowed me to learn construction specifics and methods directly in the field. Taking notes and photos of the sites gave me a clear understanding of what was going on, what the problem(s) is/are, and how our team would resolve it/them.” He then explained, “I really appreciated the team’s willingness to share information and teach me things that I didn’t know. It was a great experience and I’ll definitely take what I’ve learned and apply it as I move forward.”
Additionally, our interns tackle an independent project. Josy chose to learn practices for making site visits and recording observations both during the pre-development diligence phase and the construction progress phase. He tracked comparisons so that near the end of his internship he presented his findings and discussed lessons learned with all the Project Managers and Assistant Project Managers.
The RPL team appreciated having Josy join our team for four months this year. We wish him advanced congratulations on completing his degree next year and know that he has built some fundamental components to begin a great career in the building construction industry.
