How National Ferret Day Became a Company Holiday
In early 2021, with employees working so hard throughout the COVID-19 Pandemic, they responded to management’s request about what would be most helpful by expressing overwhelmingly that there was no standard work holiday between New Year’s Day and Memorial Day, and they would rather not burn PTO to take a needed break. So, the company decided to spontaneously give all employees an extra paid day off from work and selected Friday, April 2, 2021 as that day. Management then discovered that April 2 is also known as National Ferret Day.
Thinking of ferrets as playful and adorable, we plunged into full celebration of Ferret Day by giving a stuffed toy ferret to each employee, asked them to take a selfie that day—see the outcome of that below—and share it with everyone.
This is now an annual celebration and paid day off as a unique employee benefit. Today, every new employee receives a stuffed toy ferret on their first day welcoming them to our business!
Meet Frankie the Ferret
To further embrace the spirit of ferret day, the RPL team decided to make the ferret our company mascot. After conducting a company-wide vote, we named our ferret Frankie and our in-house designer created Frankie’s look. If you ever see us at a career fair or trade show, ask us about getting a Frankie the Ferret sticker!
Real Projectives symbolically adopted a North American Black-footed Ferret from the World Wildlife Fund in 2023. Our donation goes toward the wildlife conservation of the North American Black-footed Ferret, from habitat loss to disease.
